Research
There is no excuse for not being informed on airsoft guns. The internet is full of information, there are sites, blogs, and forums. Anywhere you can buy airsoft guns should have a helpful salesperson who will answer your questions. Books are also available.
Develop Skill
This means practice. Find a range that you can practice shooting. Its fun to go out play different airsoft games, but if you have no shooting skills, there aren’t many teams, even the ones playing casually, that will be inviting you to play. Teammates will give someone who is trying and practicing some time to develop skills. They will be intolerant of someone who won’t put out the effort.
Know The Law
Airsoft guns use has laws restricting their use and transporting across state lines. Some parts of the country are more lenient than other parts of the country. It is important to be informed of your rights with airsoft gun use. Knowing the law will prevent money that could be used for airsoft guns and gear to be spent on fines due to lack of knowledge of the law.

When you are fortunate enough to have a friend or other experienced airsoft gun shooter give you some advice, listen. Ask minimal questions and listen some more.
